County commission: bids approved for AC

Flaming's Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. was the low bidder Monday for heating and air conditioning units at the Marion County Lake hall.

The bids were opened during a Marion County Commission meeting.

Flaming's bid was $7,549 which included insulation work. Suffield Heating and Cooling had a bid of $7,610, and Swan's Refrigeration had a $9,491 bid.

In other business:

The county has received four applications for the economic development secretarial position. Interviews will be conducted next week.

County sanitarian Bobbi Strait reported she had inspected an illegal salvage operation which remained in operation on a county right-of- way. After a surveyor determines the exact location of the right-of-way, county personnel will move the items from it.

All hours spent on the problem will be recorded and collected from the non-compliant property owner.

Dale Snelling, county lake superintendent, announced he had received a grant for $47,994 for a new boat dock.

Area fuel bids were divided among the two bidders.

Cardie Oil Company of Tampa provided the low bid of $5,447 for 2,950 gallons of diesel fuel at $1.846 per gallon. Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro had the low bid of $6,697 for 3,600 gallons at approximately $1.86 per gallon.

Last year at this time, fuel was $2.60 per gallon.

Mary Holloway, chief executive officer of Northview Development Services, confirmed that SRS had instructed NDS to cease operations Sept. 30 because of violations. However, since NDS had appealed the decision, the facility will remain open and operating until the appeal is heard next year. If SRS finds the issues have been resolved before the appeal process, SRS could drop all charges.

Violations included primarily staff issues that included staff fearful of losing their jobs and not enough staff members to adequately provide the required care.

The commission decided it would continue to support the agency and will release a payment this month.

A task force had been formed and Marion County has been invited to participate. A commissioner and resident interested in mental disabilities will serve.

Noreen Weems, a member of the Marion County Substance Abuse Board, reported each school district in the county will receive $200 for Red Ribbon Week activities.

The commission opened the meeting with a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel. No decisions were made.

Later in the meeting, they entered another five-minute executive session to discuss personnel with no decisions.

A five-minute executive session to discuss personnel was called with Strait and planning commission chairman Eileen Sieger. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The commission will meet at 8 a.m. Friday for payday. There will be no meeting next week.
