County fair begins; Carlson crowned queen
Royalty was on display Wednesday morning during the crowning of the 2002 Marion County 4-H Queen.
Andrea Carlson, a member of the Lincolnville Wide Awake 4-H Club, was selected as this year's queen. Chosen to be her attendants were Gina Andrews and Cheryl Prieb, both of the South Cottonwood 4-H Club.
The ceremony began at 11:30 a.m. in the fairgrounds pavillion. Six girls were in the running for the queen title.
Andrea, who is 16 years old, has been involved in 4-H for 10 years. Some of the fair events she's involved in this year include beef, crocheting, drawing, and piano.
Andrea's real love is music, she said, and she'd like to get involved in the state FFA choir.
Andrea is the daughter of Duane and Karen Carlson.
Chosen as one of the attendants, 17-year-old Cheryl Prieb has also been involved with 4-H for more than 10 years.
This year, some of the activities she's participating in include clothing, photography, and leadership.
Gina Andrews, the other attendant, has been involved in 4-H for nine years. The daughter of Gary and Sally Andrews, she enjoys learning and having fun in 4-H, she said.
Last year's queen and attendants were also on hand at the ceremony. The 2001 queen was Sarah Davidson, of the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. Her attendants were Amanda Kleiber and Cecilia Rzhiza, both of the Tampa Triple T's 4-H Club.
"I had an absolute blast as royalty," Cecilia said.
Organizing this year's royalty event was Lindsay Matz.
"They've put in a lot of work," Matz said of the six candidates.
