County receives portion of grant for upgrades

Marion County Emergency Services recently was awarded $62,661 from the Public Safety Foundation of America.

Michele Abbott-Becker, director of the communications department, said the county had applied for $90,000 in grant funds with the county providing $30,000.

However, the county only received a portion of the requested amount.

The funds were to be used for phase I and phase II of wireless upgrades for the county. The first phase would allow the dispatcher to identify the wireless caller's phone number. The second phase would identify the wireless caller's address.

"The county commission and I will have to determine how we're going to do this," said Abbott-Becker.
