County residents respond with generosity to hurricane disaster

Donations will be accepted until Sept. 16

Here's how to help with the relief effort.

Donations will be accepted at Golden Heritage Foods at 120 Santa Fe, Hillsboro, at the Marion High School Warriors homecoming football game Sept. 16, and at local businesses.

Four Marion High School organizations will have collection boxes at the following Marion businesses: Carlsons' Grocery, Seacat Hardware, Butler Community College, Marion Pharmacy Healthmart, Duckwall's, Marion County Courthouse, Marion City Library, and County Seat.

Monetary donations are the most desired. However, the following items can be donated: water, diapers, baby food, baby formula, new towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste, female sanitary products, non-perishable cheese and crackers, canned goods with pop-top lids, granola bars, baby wipes, flashlights and batteries, new bedding and pillows, peanut butter, and toilet paper.

Clothing donations will not be accepted at this time.

Donations will be accepted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Sept. 16 at Golden Heritage Foods at 120 Santa Fe, Hillsboro.

Trucks loaded with donated items will be sent Sept. 19 to the sponsor church, Comite Baptist Church, in Baton Rouge.
