CROP Walk is Oct. 6
Hillsboro walk
set for Oct. 6
at Marion Reservoir
Three Marion County communities will stage their annual CROP Walks this fall to raise funds for the world's hungry. Walkers will join two million people in some 2,000 towns and cities across the U.S. to collect funds from their communities to help stop hunger locally and in more than 80 countries around the world.
The Goessel CROP walk will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 from the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. Twenty-five percent of this walk will fund the Tabor Food Bank.
The Hillsboro-Marion CROP walk will take place at 1:55 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Cottonwood Point on the East Shore of Marion Reservoir. Twenty-five percent of these collections will help replenish the shelves at the Marion County Food Bank.
Contributors to CROP may designate their own denominational relief agency to receive their contributions. Undesignated amounts go to Church World Service for relief and community development.
Another purpose of the walks is to help walkers identify with people around the world who must walk to get water and food, to work in the fields, to collect fire wood, and to seek medical help.
CROP Walks in Marion County last year netted $12,460. Of this, $3,144 was collected from Hillsboro; $1,433, from Marion; and $7,883, from Goessel.
