Cross country team brings home four medals for Goessel school

Hot muggy weather didn't slow the performance of the Bluebird cross country team Thursday at Clearwater.

Goessel runners participated in the junior/senior boys', freshman/sophomore boys', and the junior/senior girls' divisions. All the runners ran the two-mile race in this first competition of the season.

Senior Evan Fast finished with a fourth place medal and a time of 11:44. Kellen Jenkins was 23rd with a time of 12:58. Brady Peters placed 25th with a time of 13:02. There were 82 runners in the junior/senior division.

Casey Wedel, a freshman, ran 12:55 and picked up the 19th place in the freshman/sophomore race. Cameron Voth ran 13:23, Anthony Esau ran 14:10, Jake Schrag finished in 14:35, Travis Duerksen 14:49, Chris Johnston 15:52, Sam Lehrman 15:52, Matt Johnston 16:56, and Ryan Goertzen 19:59.

There were 103 runners that crossed the finish line. Of 87 runners in the girls' race, Janessa Wedel finished in 15:51 for 47th place and Jitka Vitova ran 16:29 for 54th place.

The cross country teams will be at Hesston Thursday.
