Dance school introduces liturgical ballet, Christmas show

Vicky's School of Dance announces its theme for the 2005-06 year "Dancin' in the USA," featuring all-American songs of different genres and decades. Boys will perform sports-themed music complete with athletic props.

New this year will be the inclusion of a Christmas show to add to Marion County's holiday festivities.

Rounding out a broad repertoire of dance styles, including ballet, Pointe, tap, jazz, Irish, and hip hops, Vicky's School of Dance introduces liturgical ballet for the coming year.

For the fourth year, Vicky's School of Dance will offer the popular Irish step dancing, both hard shoe and soft shoe. This year dancers will have the opportunity to take Irish in addition to other classes or independently, as will be with liturgical dance. Both of these specialties will be offered to students in Level II and above.

Owner and head instructor Vicky Mohn, a Hillsboro resident, has been teaching dance for 22 years, 16 of which have been local. The school includes pre-school through college-age students.

This year's summer dance camp (Aug. 1-5 or Aug. 8-12) allows for anyone to try out dance, without being enrolled in dance school. All campers will have the opportunity to perform Aug. 13 at Marion County Fair.

Registration for the 2005-06 dance year is from 4 - 8 p.m. Aug. 19 at Vicky's School of Dance, 107 W. Grand, Hillsboro. Students who are unable to attend registration may reserve a spot or for more information by contacting Vicky Mohn at (620) 947-3413.
