If the drouth is not broken, weekend rains surely have bent it seriously. This part of the state got four nights, or early mornings, of showers that totaled more than three inches.
Virgia Jones had as her guest from Belle Plaine, Beverly Young, Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday morning they left to attend a rug hooking seminar at Marysville.
A card shower has been requested to help Edith Lewis celebrate her birthday. Edith will be 99 years old Monday.

Troy Siegfreid will appear in the comedy role of Ali Hakim, the Armenian peddler, in the musical show, "Oklahoma," scheduled at Crown Uptown Theater in Wichita.
Mrs. Ella Edmiston of Seattle, Wash., arrived here last week to visit her sister, Mrs. Warren Hughes. They went to Claremore, Okla., to help celebrate their father's, R.J. Thornton, 89th birthday and visited other relatives the following week.
Miss Laurie Carlisle, bride-elect of Randy Cox, was honored at a miscellaneous bridal shower Sunday at the home of Mrs. Warren Windsor with Mrs. Randy Windsor as co-hostess.

Weston Pitts, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Pitts, has received his discharge from the Army and returned home last week. Pitts begins work this week at the Ross Mathias IGA store where he worked for two years before entering the service.
Mrs. Glenn Davis went to Manhattan Sunday for a Mother's Day celebration at the Delta Sigma Phi house.
Mrs. F.J. Homan, Mrs. C.K. Mustoe, Mrs. LaVern Decker, Mrs. Ernest Westbrook, Mrs. John Rivenburg, and Mrs. Lehlia Woods attended the Home demonstration district meeting of Harvey, Sedgwick, and Sumner counties near Wichita in the 4-H Club building last Wednesday.

Some of our citizens had a new experience last Thursday night — a large rainbow at 2 a.m.
Mrs. Lucretia Hall, one of the early settlers, died at her home in Catlin Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be conducted at the home this afternoon at two o'clock by the Rev. Bartlett.
Moffett's horse was frightened by the noise stopping McKerscher's automobile Sunday and reared back upon the dashboard damaging the buggy considerably. The strange thing is the animal had been indifferent to the machine before and does not mind it now.

The saloon men here sold their entire stock of liquors last Saturday night and are emigrating this week. That looks as though they expected the new law to be enforced.
Mr. P.C. Holler of this city, who has a fine orchard, reports his trees, both apple and peach, full of blossoms, so his crop of fruit is almost assured.
