At the invitation of Governor Bill Graves, Grace Patton of Peabody attended the 13th annual Governor's Scholars Award program on May 5 in Topeka. The recognition ceremony honors the top academic one percent of Kansas high school seniors. Grace's parents are Nelson and Norma Patton.
Bill and Vada Ann McPheeters returned home last Monday after enjoying a trip to the southwestern part of the country. They went through Carlsbad Caverns, to the Grand Canyon, and many other places of interest.
Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Gaines and Mr. and Mrs. James Riffel attended graduation exercises in Coffeyville Saturday, May 11, for Jarrod Gaines.

The Rev. Nellie Lou Holmes served as guest minister Sunday morning at the United Methodist Church. Her sermon on the topic of "oil for many lamps" was enjoyed by many local friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClure spent the weekend in Kansas City, Mo., as guests of the Richard Potts family.
Mrs. Lois Graham spent the weekend in Paola and Kansas City visiting Mr. and Mrs. Galen Graham and family and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Board.

Harry H. Brown, Peabody's senior educator who is retiring from the teaching profession after this term, will be the guest of honor at a community gathering this Saturday night.
The namesake of one of the most famous names in baseball was in Peabody last Thursday. He is Connie Mack III, grandson of the famed manager owner of the old Philadelphia Athletics before their transfer to Kansas City.
Miss Margaret Kieler spent Saturday and Sunday at home.

Mrs. J.C. DuBois of East Branch, entertained about a dozen of her friends at a quilting last Thursday and served a splendid dinner.
Elmer Pipkin left Sunday for Omaha, Neb., where he has a position as a telegrapher.
The Palisade Hotel has just issued a neatly printed announcement that they will give a special dinner on Sundays and make a rate to local patrons of 75 cents per couple.

Tom Bauslin is going into business for himself at Plum Grove.
Dr. Buck has received a very fine buggy of eastern manufacture, and that with his fine horse, makes an excellent turnout.
Mr. Brown gave his free send-off in ice cream Monday evening. The ice cream parlor is newly, and very neatly arranged, and ladies and gentlemen will find it's a nice place to go these warm days. The cream is delicious.
