Deemer D. Unruh

Deemer D. Unruh, 86, of McPherson died Sept. 3, 2003, at Infinia Health Care in McPherson.

Born Oct. 19, 1916, in Chinook, Montana, he was the son of August and Katie (Scheikofsky) Unruh.

He graduated from Lehigh High School and attended Bethel College in North Newton. On April 27, 1947, he married Wilma E. Lyne.

He was co-founder of the Goessel Antique Engine and Thrashing Company; former secretary/treasurer of the Antique Boiler Association of Kansas; member of the board of directors of the Old Mill Museum in Lindsborg; member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715 in McPherson; and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of First Christian Church in McPherson and owner and operator of Deemer Welding Equipment in McPherson.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Oliver, Kermit and Lee and sister, Madeline Kittell.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Tim Unruh of McPherson; daughter, Dea Carlson of Kearney, Mo.; sisters, Esther Rose, Sylvia Nickel, and Frances Johnson, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 6 at First Christian Church in McPherson with Pastor Matthew Voth officiating. Burial was at McPherson Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
