With the first game of district play now in the past, the Bluebirds become a target for other teams in eight-man District 5 play.

After a 60-0 victory Friday against Burrton, the Bluebirds are the only team in the five-team district with an undefeated record.

At Burrton, the Bluebird defense held Chargers out of the end zone while at the same time scoring eight touchdowns of their own.

Because of the lopsided score and injuries to several Charger players, the game was called with minutes left in the second quarter.

The scoring for the Bluebirds started with a Craig Banman 10-yard run, followed by another Banman 14-yard run.

Weston Hiebert scooped up a Burrton fumble and crossed the goal line from five yards out. Austin Unruh scored the two-point conversion.

Banman got into the end zone again on a 39-yard run and Travis Fensky caught an Unruh pass for the extra points.

Fensky was on the receiving end of another Unruh pass that went 47 yards and a score, and Kendall Voth caught a pass for the extra points. The first quarter ended with the Bluebirds ahead 36-0.

Burrton had trouble bringing down the Bluebird runners and Unruh sprinted 23 yards and then 59 yards for two more touchdowns.

Banman scored the first extra points in the second quarter and Kurtis Duerksen snagged a pass from Unruh for the extra points on the second touchdown.

Banman went into the end zone again, from five yards out and Cameron Stultz ran in the extra points.

The game was then called. Burrton had defeated Attica the week before by a score of 58-0 and now register a record of 1-4.

Goessel will face the only other eight-man football team in the Heart of America League Friday, in Little River.

The Redskins will come to Goessel following a 50-22 loss to Wilson.

Little River owns a 3-2 record and will play its first district game Friday at Goessel. The big game will be followed by two away games for the Bluebirds.
