Donald Cooprider
Donald E. Cooprider, 80, died Sept. 18, 2006, at his residence in Hesston.
He was born Feb. 3, 1926, to Irl and Lizzie (Zimmerman) Cooprider at Newton. He was baptized Oct. 20, 1939, at Hesston Memorial Church.
He grew up on a farm near Hesston. In 1949, he volunteered to serve at Mennonite Central Committee headquarters at Akron, Pa., where he was an accountant in the business office and where he met his wife, Lena Slagell. They were married May 31, 1952, in Hydro, Okla.
He also served as treasurer of South Central Mennonite Conference for 14 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife and two infant sisters.
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Phyllis Cooprider, Vancouver, Wash.; daughters and son-in-law Claudia Nathe, Apopka, Fla., and Catherine and Roger Ediger, Enid, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday at Hesston Mennonite Church, conducted by pastors John Murray and Cheryl Hershberger. Burial was at Eastlawn Cemetery, Hesston.
