Drainage issue may not be city's problem

Staff reporter

City engineer Bob Privatera reported Monday to Hillsboro City Council that the drainage issue on an alley between Wilson and D streets that was brought to the city's attention earlier this month may not be a city problem.

According to Privatera, the area that was used as an alley actually was vacated and now is an easement for city utilities. When the alley was vacated, the land reverted back to the adjoining property owners with each owner obtaining a share of the alley within the width of his property to the center of the alley.

Mayor Delores Dalke said the asphalt that was laid on the former alley by the city should be removed by the city, followed with grass seed.

Privatera was instructed to complete the study of the area.

Later in the meeting, the council approved the resignation of the city's building inspector/code enforcer Martin Rhodes. His last day is Sept. 4.

A complete story of the city council meeting will be in next week's edition of the Hillsboro Star-Journal.
