Eighth grade boys defeat Marion

The Hillsboro Middle School boys' basketball teams played Marion Monday at home.

The eighth grade team defeated Marion 48-29. Clay Shewey led the team with 16 points. Daniel Jost scored 15; Isaac Leihy, six; Thad Holmes, five; and Elliot Soyez, Landon Unruh, and Justin Wodke, two points each.

The seventh graders lost to Marion 49-19. Adam Suderman led the team with six points. Jacob Fish scored four points and Nathan Vogel and Chris Couts, two points each.

The mixed team lost 29-8. John Hein scored three points; Josh Garrett and Lonnie Chapman, two each; and Jacob Edwards, one.

Last Thursday, the Trojans traveled to Sterling. The eighth graders won 51-26. Jost scored 17 points; Shewey, 16; Andy Klassen, 11; Holmes, seven; and Soyez and William Munguya, two points.

The seventh graders defeated Sterling 41-27. Tyler Ediger and Neil Kaiser scored eight points each. Fish scored six points; Couts and Daniel Kunantaev, four points each; Mason McCarty, three; and Taylor Hagen and Tayler Loewen, two points each.

The mixed team won 22-21. Garrett scored eight points; Edwards and Michael Klaassen, four points each; Matthew Richert, three points; Hein, two points; and Chapman, one point.

At Halstead on Dec. 2, the eighth graders lost 32-26. Daniel Jost scored 11 points; Holmes, five; Shewey, four; and Unruh, Munguya, and Nolan Dirks, two points each.

The seventh graders lost 55-23. Ediger scored 11 points; and Couts, Fish, Lane Holmes, Kunantaev, Suderman, and Kaiser, each scored two points.

The mixed team lost 26-22. Edwards and David Ratzloff led in scoring with five points each. Evan Just and Matthew Richert each scored four points and Jared King and Hein each scored two points.

The middle school boys play today at Lindsborg. Game time is at 4:30 p.m.
