The Goessel seventh and eighth grade quiz bowl teams have had a very successful season.

According to their coach Bruce Stucky, during the league tournament, both the seventh and eighth grade teams went through the pool play undefeated. The seventh grade team lost in the elimination round, and the eighth grade went on to win the championships.

"The seventh grade team won the meets at Little River and Sedgwick along with several second and third place finishes against larger schools," Stucky said.

"The eighth grade team went undefeated the whole year, and their claim to the league title will go along with the league title a year ago as seventh graders," he said.

"The thrill of wining, getting out of school and the food at the meets" were the eighth graders' three most popular answers about what made quiz bowl fun.

In most meets, the schools were divided into pools and Goessel played each team in its pool. Every match consisted of 16 questions, with math, social science, natural science, and literature being a major part of every round.

The winning teams from each pool played winning teams from the other pools to determine a winner. Although quiz bowl success meant that the students needed to practice at 7:30 on Wednesday mornings, the talkative students immediately credited their parents as being very supportive and attending many of their meets.
