Elbiata Singers to peforma at Hesston College

The Bel Canto Singers of Hesston College will host a concert of three area schools at Hesston Mennonite Church, Sunday, January 26, at 3 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Bel Canto, a 22-voice choir directed by Professor Jake Rittenhouse, will perform several numbers, as will the Elbiata Singers from Goessel High School and the Hesston High Singers. The Elbiata Singers are directed by Greg Bontrager, an alumnus of both Hesston and Bethel colleges. The Hesston High Singers are directed by Steve Miller, a Bethel College alumnus.

After the three groups perform separately, the combined choirs will sing two selections. Bontrager will lead the combined choirs in an arrangement by Hugo Distler of "Praise to the Lord the Almighty." Then Miller will direct the choirs in "Ubi Caritas" (Latin for "Where charity and love are found, God is there") by John Leavitt, from Wichita.

Rittenhouse said the concert will be "a time to enjoy the music presented by each group. It's also an opportunity to bring the high school choirs onto the Hesston College campus."
