Eldon Schmidt

Eldon M. Schmidt, 79, Newton, died May 11, 2002, at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

Born May 27, 1922, in Goessel, he was the son of John J. and Anna (Lehrman) Schmidt.

He married Margaret Eck, she died in 1968.

On Dec. 11, 1971, at Newton, he married Irene Goertz. She survives of the home.

He worked for DMH Mobile Home Manufacturing in Newton.

He was a member of First Mennonite Church in Newton where he sang in the church choir. He also sang with the Mennonite Men's Chorus for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Schmidt.

Survivors include his wife of the home; and sister Linda Jantz of Hillsboro.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Mennonite Church in Newton. Pastor Verney Unruh of Newton and Chaplain Peter Hartman of Hospice Care of Kansas in Newton will officiate the service. Burial will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at First Mennonite Church in Newton.
