Eleanor Slifer

Eleanor Maxine Philo Zook Slifer, 80, died Dec. 12, 2005, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Born May 17, 1925, in Osage County, Okla., she was the second of six children born to William T. "Ted" and Wava Eleanor (Lindley) Philo.

She graduated from McClouth High School in 1943.

In 1954, she moved to Florence.

On June 22, 1960, she married Dr. John C. Slifer at Nickerson.

She was a member of Florence United Methodist Church and Florence Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Wava Judith Zook Carson.

Survivors include three sons, Ramon and Paulette Zook of Florence, John C. and Sheryl Slifer of Walton, and Lindley and Trudy Slifer of Marion; four brothers, Denzel Philo of Bella Vista, Ark., William T. "Bill" Philo and Claude Philo, both of Corsicana, Texas, and Carl Philo of McCook, Neb.; sister, Mildred and Maurice Edmonds of McPherson; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Florence United Methodist Church with pastors Bethann Black and Larry Timm officiating.

A memorial fund has been established with Union Rescue Mission, Wichita.
