Elizabeth Goertz
Elizabeth Goertz, 98, of Chardon Township, Ohio, died June 20, 2002, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Chardon.
Born July 5, 1903, in Goessel, the daughter of Johannish and Helena Schmidt.
On Nov. 23, 1927, at Goessel, she married Peter I. Goertz. He died in 1991.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed farm life for 88 years before moving into Goessel.
She was a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel and was active in the Circle of Missions. She attended Chardon United Methodist in Chardon.
She was a 4-H home economic adviser and a volunteer with HDU in Goessel. She enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Leo Goertz, and daughter Helen Pope.
Survivors include: daughters, Betty and her husband Tony Palazzo of Chardon Township, Ohio, and Caroline and her husband Mark Dietz of McPherson; sons, Emory and his wife Marlene Goertz of Farmington, N.M., and Harry and his wife Laura Goertz of Granger, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services were held June 22 at Burr Funeral Home in Chardon, Ohio, with Rev. Henry Woodruff of Chardon United Methodist Church officiating.
Services were held Wednesday at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Rev. James Dunn officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060.
