Ella Hamm Schuber
Ella Hamm Schuber, 101, of Hillsboro, died Aug. 28, 2003, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit.
Born Aug. 22, 1902, in Cherneriff, Russia, she was the daughter of Fredrick and Juliann (Ollek) Hamm. She, her mother and six of her siblings moved to Alepna, Michigan, in 1908. A year later, her father came to America, and the family moved to Lehigh before settling on a farm northwest of Durham.
She was baptized at an early age and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Durham. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, serving as president for many years, and a Sunday School teacher.
On July 22, 1921, she married Solomon Schuber in Abilene. He died in 1959. They lived on farms northwest of Durham and southeast of Tampa. After his death, she moved to Durham where she lived until going to Salem Home in August of 1999.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters and brothers, daughter Irene and husband Warren.
Survivors include grandchildren, Anita and husband Richard from LaCanada, Calif., and Dana and wife Kathy from Champaign, Ill.; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Karisa and Bailey Brenner, Sheryl and husband Bob, Keith and wife Elizabeth.
Services were held Sept. 3 at First Baptist Church of Durham with Pastor Curtis Wiens officiating. Burial was at Durham Park Cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established with First Baptist Church of Durham, Durham Senior Center, and Hillsboro Community Long Term Care Unit.
