Ella Mahler

Ella Mahler, 105, of Peabody, died July 26, 2003, at Legacy Park in Peabody where she had been a resident since 1980.

Born Feb. 8, 1898, at Hanover, she was the daughter of Albert and Marie Dvorak Svehla Chopp. The family moved from Hanover to Oklahoma in 1901 in a covered wagon.

She attended Catholic schools, some public school, and Oklahoma City Business College. She worked as a telephone operator for the Pioneer Telephone Company at Perry, Oklahoma, and often served as a Czech translator.

On Jan. 26, 1920, she married Lewis Walter Mahler at Tulsa, Okla. In 1935 they moved to Parsons. He died in 1972. In 1980 she moved to Peabody.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Parsons, a 25-year member of the VFW Auxiliary of Parsons, and a former member of the Flower and Garden Club at Oklahoma City. She enjoyed tatting and crochetting.

Survivors include niece, Margaret Vinduska of rural Marion, and other nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons with Fr. Robert Wachter serving as the celebrant. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. A memorial has been established with the church.
