Embert Giesbrecht
Embert Giesbrecht, 74, of Rich Hill, Mo., died of congestive heart failure Nov. 27, 2003, at Nevada Regional Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1929, in Hillsboro, he was the son of David E. and Mary (Esau) Giesbrecht. When he was a child, the family moved to Littlefield, Texas, returning to Durham in 1941.
He accepted the Lord's call and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minister John Becker at Durham in January of 1944.
On Nov. 14, 1954, he married Margaret Ann Wiebe at Hillsboro. He served in 1-W service in Baltimore, Maryland, from 1953 through 1955.
The family moved to their farm in 1963. In 1996 he suffered a stroke during surgery. He and his wife moved to Rich Hill in December of 1997.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years of Rich Hill; daughters, Marilyn Schmidt and husband Gary of Rich Hill, LaWanda Dirks and husband Gery of Saguache, Colo., Virginia Litwiller and husband Dennis of Muleshoe, Texas, Rosalie Koehn and husband Terry of Nevada, Mo., and Evelena Schultz and husband Calvin of Rich Hill; 19 grandchildren; brothers, Jonas Giesbrecht and wife Myrtle of Hillsboro, Daniel Giesbrecht and wife Della of Atwater, Calif., and Clarence Giesbrecht and wife Cris of Hillsboro; and sisters-in-law, Frieda Toews of Faunsdale, Ala., Luetta Toews of Elma, Manitoba, and Dorothy Wiebe of Lobelville, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Dec. 1 at Bethany Mennonite Church in Rich Hill, Mo., with Ministers Gordon Koehn, Myron Koehn and Lance Dirks officiating. Burial was at Bethany Mennonite Cemetery in Rich Hill.
A memorial has been established with Bethany Mennonite Church.
