Enrollment down in all county school districts

According to recent enrollment information, student numbers are down in every Marion County school district.

Friday, Sept. 20, was the official enrollment date for state schools. The amount of state aid a district receives depends on the enrollment figures from that day.

At Hillsboro, final numbers weren't in on Monday. But according to the September Board of Education meeting, 682 students are enrolled in USD 410. Last year, 718 students were enrolled in the district.

In 2001-02, 63 students were enrolled in the senior class, but the largest grades were sixth and 11th, with 65 students each. The smallest grade, kindergarten, had 34 students.

The enrollment drop in the Goessel school district was smaller than the other four districts. This year, Goessel has 299 students enrolled, just seven fewer than last year's total of 306.

Last year, 25 students were enrolled in the senior class, with 14 in kindergarten. The largest class was seventh grade, with 34 students.

The county's largest district, Marion-Florence, took the hardest hit, going down to a head count of 685 this year. That's 56 fewer students than the 2001-02 total of 741.

Peabody's enrollment numbers dropped this year to 437, down from 465 last year. In 2001-02, there were 39 seniors and 18 in kindergarten. Tenth grade was the largest class, with 49 students.
