Eric Driggers, who recently earned his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas, was added to the full-time staff of Greenhaw Pharmacy on May 1. He is the son of Darrell and Charlene Driggers of Hillsboro.
Driggers grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1997. Although he went on to study biology at Tabor College, he remained uncertain about his future plans. Working at Greenhaw Pharmacy during Christmas break one year cemented in his mind the idea of becoming a pharmacist.
"I liked the interaction with customers," remarked Driggers.
Although shocked by the immense size of KU, Driggers enjoyed his time there. Because the pharmacy school remained small, with a graduating class of 93 students, he was able to get to know and interact with fellow classmates, which was important to him.
While attending school, Driggers worked 20-30 hours a week as a student intern at an independent pharmacy and at Wal-Mart.
For Driggers, the worst part of his educational experience came when he had to complete his clinical practice internship. He had to rotate around the Wichita area, working in different hospitals and at Greenhaw Pharmacy as a pharmaceutical intern for nine months. Continually adjusting to new environments every month proved to be a challenge, but he prevailed.
Last week, Driggers received his license to practice pharmacy in the state of Kansas.
"It's nice to be done," he said with a sigh.
Besides pharmacy, Driggers also loves sports. During his high school years, he participated in basketball, track, and football. Lately, he enjoys golfing when he gets the opportunity.
His wife, Tami, graduated from Tabor College in 2001, after earning a degree in English. Currently, she manages an apartment complex in Wichita. They plan to move to Hillsboro July 1 to begin a new phase in their lives.
