Events announced for Hillsboro's 120th birthday celebration years ago
Hillsboro's 120th birthday and family folk festival/all-school reunion will be held Memorial Day weekend, May 28-31.
A $5 button will gain admittance to all events except the demolition derby and all-school reunion banquet. Much of the cost is being underwritten by Hillsboro businesses and individuals.
A carnival will be Friday evening on the west fairgrounds. Following the carnival, a street dance will be held downtown on Main Street with music provided by W.C. Edgar and band.
Saturday events will include a 5k fun run beginning and ending at Hillsboro Municipal Swimming Pool, golf tournament at Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course, parade on Main Street, sidewalk sale provided by downtown merchants, classic car show in Memorial Park Circle, carnival on west fairgrounds, Mennonite settlement museum activities, airport fly-in, breakfast, and air show, quilt show, antique tractors, food vendors, McPherson Train Club, and Glimpses of the Past.
The Hillsboro High School reunion followed by a fireworks display, and carnival will take place Saturday evening.
On Sunday afternoon the Mennonite Men's Chorus will perform in Tabor College gymnasium. On Sunday evening there will be a demolition derby and carnival.
On Monday morning, a Memorial Day program honoring area World War II veterans will be held in Memorial Park Circle.
The special weekend is sponsored by Hillsboro Convention and Visitors Bureau and Hillsboro High School Alumni Association.
