Foreign exchange student Lisa Rohner of Germany stamped the Goessel cross country team's passport to a never-before-visited place Saturday — the Class 1A state championship, in Wamego.

Rohner won the Class 1A regional race at Lake Afton this past Saturday and led the Bluebirds to their first-ever regional team title.

On a cold, wet, and windy 2.5-mile course, Rohner powered across the finish line in 16:37.

Teammates Janessa Wedel took seventh in 18:22, Sara Bowman was ninth in 18:31, and Lindsey Wedel was 10th in 18:31. Friederike Noltenius finished out of the top 10, but also will have a chance to run at state.

Wedel, a senior, will make her third appearance at the state meet, but its the first time she's had traveling companions.

In addition to the Goessel girls, the Goessel boys will send two individual runners to state, Martin Koppitz and Wade Wilson. Koppitz finished sixth at regionals (19:31) and Wilson eighth (19:43). The boy's team missed third place by five points.
