Expert will review bids for mold cleanup
Kid's games, a great meal, cake auction, and an appearance by "Sparky" the fire dog all will provide fun and entertainment in Florence Saturday evening as the volunteer fire department winds up 2005 Fire Prevention Week.
"We've gotten some special prizes for the kids and we will have games and some demonstrations," said Tim Parmley, Florence Fire Chief. "We will pass out goodie bags to the kids and 'Sparky' the fire dog also will be there. We will even auction a fire truck cake!
"We hope everyone will come to the fire station for food and just a good ol' time in Florence," he said.
"We are hoping the kids will learn a little about fire safety while they are having fun. We will have bunker gear and helmets available for them to see and they can meet the firemen and ask questions. We want them to feel like this is a time to meet the men who will help them if they ever need it," he said.
Games will begin at 4 p.m. followed at 5 by the barbecue. A door prize will be given to one child and one adult.
There is no charge for the meal, but a free will donation will be taken. Money raised will help pay for equipment such as the trailer recently purchased by the fire department and the city. The trailer will be used to transport a generator capable of running utilities at the city building or any other command center in case of an emergency such as the January ice storm.
The public is invited to attend.
