The 2002 high school cross country team has been practicing and preparing for a successful season. The girls have a completely new look as three seniors graduated from last year's team. Jennifer Schmidt and Linessa Duerksen, both freshman, are joined by German exchange student Thersia Hoelzl.
The boys lost two seniors from last year's state cross country team but will have Jeremy Voth, Kent Peters, Peter Goerzen, and Lance Hiebert return from last year's team. These fellows will be joined by freshman Evan Fast.
"The team is small but has an excellent attitude," said Coach Greg Bontrager, who is in his ninth year as head coach. "The team may not be able to compete for team scores at many meets because of the small numbers, but we hope to finish with faster times than the previous season."
Goessel begins its season with a meet today at Clearwater.
