Fire department gets more than $4,000 in relief funds years ago
Fire departments in Marion County will receive about $40,806 in Firefighters Relief Funds.
They include Marion County Fire District No. 2, $7,653; Marion, $5,464; Florence, $2,050; Lincolnville/Clear Creek, $5,196; Burns, $4,200; Lehigh, $2,156; Peabody, $2,751; Hillsboro, $4,064; Fire District No. 1, $1,920; Fire District No. 3, $1,893; Tampa, $1,824; and Fire District No. 4, $1,633.
More than $6.6 million was distributed by the Kansas Insurance Department this year, Commissioner Kathleen Sebelius said. It comes from a two percent tax on fire and lightning insurance premiums paid in Kansas the previous year.
The money is used to support the families of firefighters who are injured, disabled, or killed on the job.
About $200,000 was allocated to education and research on fire prevention and firefighting.
Kansas has 582 firefighters associations.
