Five Trojan wrestlers place at Eureka

Six Hillsboro High School varsity wrestlers traveled on Saturday to Eureka to compete in the Eureka Wrestling Tournament. With 14 teams competing, Hillsboro placed ninth as a team with a total of 67 points.
"The guys wrestled well," said Head Coach Corey Burton. "We only took six guys there and were able to place five in the top four."
"This was the strongest tournament we've competed in," he said.
"We were off by a couple of points in team totals and could have been in the top four if Ronnie had been able to wrestle and placed third or higher," he said.
Davis, a 215-pounder, did not compete because of illness.
James Bina, in the 152-pound weight class division, was the only Trojan to make the finals. He placed second with a 2-1 record for the day.
"James wrestled really well against a Mulvane kid to get into the semifinal match," Burton said.
"Mulvane, who took first, has a tough team. They are ranked fifth or sixth in the state in 5A," he said.
Bri Ratzlaff placed third in the 103-pound weight class with a 3-1 record; Carson Greenhaw placed third in the 145-pound weight class with a 3-1 record; Ryan Janzen placed fourth in the 119-pound weight class with a 2-2 record; Wade Sorensen placed fourth in the 189-weight class with a 2-2 record; Danny Yoder competed in the 125-pound weight class and ended the day with a 2-2 record.
Last Thursday, the team traveled to Lincoln to compete against Lincoln and Lyons.
The Trojans won the dual, easily defeating Lyons 78-5 and narrowly defeating Lincoln 39-38.
Lyons numbers were down and the Trojans only had three wrestlers who wrestled.
Against Lincoln, Burton said, "Before we came into that match I told the guys that every point would count."
"Lincoln won the Halstead tournament the week before, and I knew they were a tough team."
But Hillsboro was able to come out victorious in the end to win by one point.
The team will travel on Thursday back to Eureka to compete in a dual against Council Grove and Eureka.
"This is probably the fullest dual we've had this year," Burton said, "so it should be good."
