Flu or West Nile virus?
It may seem nuts, but I think there may be something to this whole West Nile Virus thing.
As I'm writing this, I've been stricken with what I would call a better-than-average case of the flu for the better part of four days. First a strong headache, then the nausea and now an upset stomach.
It's caused me to wonder whether or not it's the flu or perhaps the West Nile Virus that has plagued me.
My wife, God bless her heart, suffered through the same symptoms about a week and a half ago. She's just getting over it.
After suffering through this whole thing, I've decided to go to the doctor to just see what my wife and I have been dealing with. And it's my guess that we're dealing with something other than just the flu. While it could be West Nile, I don't think I'm ready to accept that a mosquito could make me this sick.
With the recent case of human West Nile virus confirmed in Marion County, I would urge folks to take a serious look at how they're feeling, and their overall health. It may just be the flu, but why not be on the safe side and have it checked out.
In several metropolitan-based newspapers it's been reported that the state is under-reporting the overall human West Nile virus count. So it's up to you to get checked out.
Most people, or at least those who are relatively healthy, rarely even know they are infected by the virus, other than the symptoms associated with it. But the symptoms are said to be excellent indicators of the virus.
So if you're feeling ill with flu-like symptoms, do yourself and others a service and get checked out.
