Food, contests, fun for the whole family at Chingawassa Days
This year's Chingawassa Days offers food, fun, and family time June 6-8 in Central Park, downtown Marion.
With a $20 button, purchased before May 25 or $30 after, participants can enjoy a full array of entertainment with the main event being Saturday evening when Grand Funk Railroad takes the stage.
A $5 Saturday pass also is available for the daytime events at Central Park.
It all begins at 6 p.m. June 6, when Marion National Bank sponsors the Chingawassa barbecue.
Following at 6:30 p.m., St. Luke Hospital will provide an ice cream social.
The evening is topped with music provided by Hopkins Switch at 6:45 p.m., and the Diamond W Wranglers performing at 7:45 p.m.
Saturday morning begins bright and early with the Kiwanis pancake feed from 7 to 10 a.m. (An additional fee will be charged.)
Wood carvers, a climbing wall, temporary tattoos, petting zoo, and food court also are available.
There are numerous participatory contests which include a horseshoe pitching tournament, a 5k run and two-mile run/walk, car show, motorcycle poker run, celebrity tricycle races, bed races, rock/paper/scissors tournament, dodge ball tournament, hot dog eating contest, and games for the young and young-at-heart.
Central National Bank will sponsor a watermelon feed at 3 p.m. and bingo at 3:30 p.m. Crazy Ivan will rock and roll on Luta Creek Stage.
And you can't forget the Kansas Anvil Shooters who will send the iron weight into the air at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The park closes at 5 p.m. and reopens at 5:30 p.m. in preparation of the evening's events.
The band Freak Accident will perform at 6:30 p.m., followed by the band Chapter 2.
A chain saw art auction will be held at 8:30 p.m.
And then finally, at 9 p.m., classic rock band, Grand Funk Railroad will perform.
A post-concert fireworks show will cap the night.
At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, everyone is welcome to a community church service at the USD 408 Performing Arts Center.
