After one game into the 2002 football season, Jay Goering, Goessel High School football coach has resigned due to health concerns.

"The health problems I have been dealing with for the last several years have steadily worsened," Goering said.

"I need to slow down and let my body heal itself. I'm in the process of seeing several specialists so that we can determine just exactly what the problem is and what can be done."

"I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and concerns and let them know that my goal is to be able to return to coaching in some form in the future," Goering said in a statement on Tuesday.

Goering announced the news to the team last week.

"The ability for the players to bounce back after the shock is a testament to the type of players we have," said assistant coach Troy Kemling. Kemling will take on the head coaching duties for football for the rest of the season.

Goessel is now 2-0 and will travel Friday to Pretty Prairie.
