Goessel's offense could not get started in the first quarter against the Burrton Charger football team last Friday.
Burrton scored 30 points in the first quarter and another touchdown just as the second quarter started to give them a 36-0 lead over the visiting Bluebirds.
They would go on to defeat Goessel 48-18.
Goessel's first touchdown came on a 32-yard pass play from Ben Schmidt to Nicholas Peters. The elusive Rolando Burriss scored again in the second quarter. As the second quarter was winding down, Schmidt found Aaron Stehman in the end zone, and Stehman wrestled a pass away from a Burrton defender for Goessel's second touchdown. The half time score was 42-12.
Burrton's Josh Urban caught another touchdown for the first score in the third quarter, but Goessel answered with a 15-yard run by Schmidt and a dive over the goal line to bring the score to 48-18. As Burrton threatened again, Stehman intercepted a pass near the goal line and sprinted 65 yards down the field to the Goessel 15-yard line. Burrton's defense held the Bluebirds out of the end zone, But Wayne Cooper recovered a Burrton fumble, giving Goessel a glimmer of hope.
The defense on both teams kept the game scoreless in the fourth quarter, with Goessel getting a first down on the two-yard line but not being able to score.
Goessel's record is now 3-2, and the Bluebirds will play Tescott at home on Friday.
