The Hillsboro High School forensics team took home a third place plaque at the Marion Invitational Forensics tournament held Feb. 20 at Marion High School.
Twelve schools competed in the tournament. They included Hillsboro, Peabody, Remington, Hope, Pretty Prairie, Circle, Northern Heights, Inman, Herington, Chase County, Centre, and Wichita Trinity.
"We did really well, and I was very pleased," said coach Terry Bebermeyer. "We had only one opening, and that made a difference for us."
Those students receiving medals at the meet in the speaking events were Adrien Bebermeyer who placed first and Emily Railsback placed second in oration; Allison Kunkel placed first in informative; and Diana Wright placed fifth in extempo.
In the interpretive events, Bebermeyer placed first and Kunkel placed second in the prose; and Kelli Just placed second and Dana Suderman placed fifth in poetry.
In the acting events, Grant Anderson place first in the serious solo and Robert Jost placed seventh in the humorous solo.
"We had a number of students place first and second," Bebermeyer said. "We also had some of our novices place at the tournament, and that was good."
The team will compete Saturday at the Peabody Invitational tournament and will host their own tournament at 3:45 p.m. March 10. Hillsboro will not compete because rules forensics rules state that the school hosting the event can not compete.
