Former extension agent to speak at workshop

Kathy (Goodin) Bosch will be the keynote speaker Nov. 5 at the Marion County Women's Wellness Workshop. Her presentation will begin at 9:15 a.m.
Bosch was a county extension agent in Marion County for 13 years. She now teaches at the University of Nebraska as a family life specialist and assistant professor in Family and Consumer Sciences.
She earned a doctorate in family life education and consultation, family studies and human services from Kansas State University.
Bosch provides expertise to educators, schools, community action agencies, adult education programs, and family preservation teams.
She is involved in issues of abuse toward women, social support networks, and families with limited resources.
Walk-ins are welcome but individuals are encouraged to register for the free workshop by calling 620-382-2325.
Linda Ogden, director of Communities in Schools of Marion County, encourages mothers to attend. She said several presenters will provide helpful advice in nurturing their children.
Saturday's activities begin with registration at 8:15 p.m. at Marion Elementary School.
Participants may choose to attend three of seven available workshops.
Lynne Fruechting of Newton will address obesity in children.
Kay Carlson, a housewife, mother, and grandmother from Kingman, will demonstrate how to record one's life through creative self-expressions.
Billie Blair, director of Tallgrass Spiritual Retreat Center at Matfield Green, will teach practical ways to attain peace of mind.
Nancy W. Methvin of rural Lincolnville, an instructor at Emporia State University, will discuss the history of quilting and its evolution.
Nancy Pihl, K-State extension agent for Marion County, will talk about chocolate — where it comes from, how it's made, and why people crave it.
Katherine Mick, a mother and grandmother from Newton, will explain how to communicate with children in positive, constructive ways.
Sally Bailey, an associate professor at Kansas State University, will use fun-filled drama therapy to create energy and relaxation through group interaction.
A free lunch will be served by Panhandler Caterers and will include a delectable dessert bar.
A free children's workshop will be provided, including a noon lunch.
The day's activities conclude at 2:30 p.m.
