Former Tabor tennis coach moves into role at HHS

Although this is his first year at Hillsboro High School, HHS tennis coach Kory Unruh is no stranger to the sport.

Unruh spent his past two years coaching college-level tennis at Tabor, where he spent time recruiting players from the team he now coaches. It was a good way to get to know the players of the MCAA, he said.

Now he's bringing his experience to the nine-man tennis team, which returns six letter winners.

The team is fairly evenly distributed as far as age goes — the team has three seniors, three juniors, two sophomores, and one freshman. The three seniors returning are Adam Driggers, Jesse Jantzen, and Jordan Woelk.

But the team has some big shoes to fill in departing players Jared Hefley and Mike Hagen — both of which graduated last year and now play collegiately at Tabor.

Unruh's optimistic that his team will quickly get into the groove and play well.

"I see a good chance of us going to state," he said. "We're going to work hard."
