Friesen Furniture closes
After 27 years of serving Hillsboro, Friesen Furniture Center has closed its doors. Monday, Feb. 25 was the store's final day.
Friesen's Furniture has been a mainstay of downtown Hillsboro since the mid-1970s, when Andy Friesen purchased the store from Joel Franz.
Over the years, Friesen Furniture expanded into the surrounding storefronts. When Friesen purchased the store, he had 3,000 square feet of space. By 2002, the store encompassed 16,000 square feet.
Andy and his wife, Bonnie, made the decision to retire from the furniture business last fall. To help them, they brought in experienced store liquidators James "Bernie" and Claire Bernheisel of Georgia.
The absence of Friesen Furniture now leaves a large downtown building ready for a new Hillsboro business.
