FSA deadline looms

By BILL HARMON

Marion County FSA Director

County Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices are seeking and accepting nominations for candidates to run for their FSA county committee. Nominees should be representative of county farming and ranching operations in their areas and be willing to serve a three-year elected term.

For a nomination petition to be valid, it must be limited to one nominee, include written certification that the nominee will serve if elected, and be signed by one eligible voter in the area holding the election this year. Nomination petitions can be obtained from the county FSA office. The deadline to submit completed nomination petitions to the FSA office is Oct. 28.

Annual voting is done by Local Administrative Area (LAA). Marion County farm producers in the townships of Lehigh, Risley, Menno, Liberty, East Branch, and West branch will be allowed to cast ballots for the election of one county committee member from this area.

Individuals of legal voting age with an interest in farmland as an owner, operator, or tenant are eligible to vote in the LAA committee election.

The local FSA county committee shoulders primary responsibility for making national farm programs fit the needs and situations faced by local farmers. They bring expertise and knowledge to the delivery of many USDA programs and services.

Ballots will be mailed to eligible voters by Nov. 19.
