George Pankratz
George G. Pankratz, 94, of Hutchinson, died Dec. 23, 2002, at Buhler Sunshine Home in Buhler.
Born July 25, 1908, in Marion County near Straussberg, he was the son of Rev. Gerhardt M. and Kathrina (Wiens) Pankratz.
He attended schools in Marion and Inman and Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. He was a resident of Hutchinson since 1926.
On July 11, 1931, he married Elizabeth Catherine Mero at Hutchinson.
He began his 41-year career in banking in 1927 which included working for American National Bank, Exchange National Bank, Central State Bank, and Bankers Investment. Until 1983 he worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses in Hutchinson. He was a member of the American Legion and worked with the National Junior College Basketball Tournament, serving on the financial committee and as treasurer.
He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Sam, Albert, Dan, Otto, and Harry; and sisters, Martha Heidebrecht, Margaret Heibert, and Mary Penner.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Susan and husband John W. Scott of Hutchinson; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Walter Pankratz of Reedley, Calif.
Funeral services were held Dec. 27 at First Baptist Church in Hutchinson with Rev. Jim Autrey presiding. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson.
