Georgie Vogel
Georgie Ann Vogel, 58, of Marion, died April 21, 2003, at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Born Nov. 30, 1944, in Marion, she was the eldest daughter of George J. and Leona Fern (Higgins) Helmer. Her mother died on March 24, 1947, when Georgie was 2, and she was raised by her father and his wife, Carol Helmer.
She was a lifelong resident of Marion County and graduated from Marion High School in 1962. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 8 and was baptized on Easter Sunday April 5, 1953, in the Marion Evangelical United Brethren Church. The church later became Marion Eastmoor United Methodist Church, where she was a member and served as a Communion steward.
On Feb. 10, 1963, she married Garry Paul Vogel. He survives of Marion. They had two daughters: Darla Ann and Jamie Lynn.
She worked for J & K Insurance Agency for more than 20 years. She was currently employed at Martin-Marietta Rock Quarry and Kingfisher.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her father George J. Helmer and his wife Carol Helmer of Newton; daughters, Darla and husband Jeff Gore of Florence and Jamie Lynn and husband James McDonald of Wichita; sisters, Barbara and husband Jerry Bessel of Assaria, Linda and husband Dan Stucky of Newton, and Brenda and husband Mark Buller of Newton; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 24 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion with Revs. John Goering and Rick Branson officiating. Internment was at Highland Cemetery in Marion.
Memorials have been established with Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
