Goessel High School threesome of Ben Goering and brother and sister, Justin and Tricia Fensky competed at the KSHSAA 1A state track meet held Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium on the Wichita State University campus.
Tricia, a freshman pole vaulter, was the first of the Bluebird athletes to compete.
According to coach Justin Coup, Tricia qualified for state and set a new school record with a jump of 8'0" on May 21 in regionals at Madison.
At state she did not make the opening jump of 7'0" and could not continue at the state meet.
"That's why she was so disappointed that she would not be able to compete at state because she had been jumping seven feet all year," Coup said.
Justin, a sophomore, competed in the triple jump and placed fifth at state with a jump of 42'3" and set a new school record.
"Both Tricia and Justin gained some valuable experience going to state," Coup said.
In his third appearance at state, senior Ben Goering competed in the pole vault on Saturday and tied for seventh place, clearing the bar at 12'6". Goering took fourth last year at state.
"It was a good way for Justin to finish out his senior year," Coup said. "He really helped out with Tricia this year."
"We had a very young team with only three seniors this year," coup said.
"These kids that qualified for state competed very well," he added.
