Goessel will play a 20-game schedule during the regular season with the first game being against Moundridge at Goessel on Dec. 6. Coach Justin Coup will be assisted by Curtis Guhr and will have 18 boys to work with for this year. Two seniors, two juniors, six sophomores and eight freshmen make up the team for 2004.

Leadership will come from six players with experience from last year. Senior Ryan Janzen will be a scoring threat from inside as he uses his 6'4" height to his advantage. Janzen had 12.9 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game from last year. Justin Fensky will play guard as the junior returns with 6.3 point average from last year and 2.2 assists per game. Garrett Hiebert, a 6'1 sophomore, will add rebounding power under the bucket. Junior forward, Tyler Schroeder at 6'3", along with sophomores Jordan Voth, Travis Buller, and Brett Goerzen also will be counted on in this season. Jake Meeks will be expected to contribute with his 6'3" height.

Although only about six players had much experience on varsity last season, Coach Coup is expecting an intense defense to keep them competitive in every game. The Bluebirds will try to improve on a 5-16 record from last year.
