GHS FCCLA attends state workshops

Youth from the Goessel High School chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently participated in the State Leadership Showcase held April 5-6 in Wichita.

Attendees participated in workshops and sessions that allowed students to accept-the challenges of being members today but leaders tomorrow through the power of FCCLA.

Approximately 2,000 members, advisers, and guests throughout the state attended the meeting. FCCLA members attending from Goessel High School were Brittany Dirksen, Tricia Fensky, Darla Funk, Katie Ross, Mandy Schrag, Tyler Schroeder, Carolyn Unruh, Jake Unruh, Sarah Unruh, Megan Wedel, and Alexis York. FCCLA adviser, Ruth Goertzen, accompanied the students to the meeting.

Members had the opportunity to listen to keynote speaker Barrett Keene, who spoke about messages of love, character and passion. Students also had the opportunity to connect to other track sessions of their choice such as financial fitness, leadership, career decisions, and Stop the Violence.

Alexis York, a senior at GHS and president of the school's FCCLA chapter said, "Everyone really benefited from going to the slate meeting. I think it gave the underclassmen a better look at what FCCLA is all about. It also encouraged and motivated members to get involved in different kinds of service projects."

FCCLA is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. Participation in state and national programs, as well as chapter activities, helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.
