GHS FCCLA students attend leadership conference
Goessel High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America participated April 3 through 5 in the State FCCLA Leadership Showcase in Wichita.
Members attended workshops and engaged in dynamic speakers. These speakers encouraged them to reflect on the past year and motivated them to "Think eXtreme" as they returned to their home chapters and communities.
Track session speaker Patty Hendrickson inspired the delegation with her high energy, interactive, and educational message on leadership. Awards were handed out to the top service projects in the areas of violence prevention, community improvement, financial awareness, and family relationships as well as the announcement of STAR Event winners. Peer educators and the new district officers received training in team building and leadership as they begin their officer terms for 2005-06.
Goessel's FCCLA chapter was also recognized for its monetary donation to Kansas Make A Wish Foundation, the 2004-2005 State Community Service Project.
Samantha Campbell, sophomore at GHS, said, "State Leadership Showcase was a good experience. I learned about bullying and violence in our schools and communities. Miss Kansas, Megan Bushell, spoke to us about the cycle of domestic violence and how it can have an impact on all of us through our relationships with other people."
Chapter members attending the Leadership Showcase were Samantha Campbell, Brittany Dirksen, Renee Fensky, Tricia Fensky, Kory Hiebert, Aleesha Hines, Katie Ross, Tyler Schroeder, and Sarah Unruh. Ruth Goertzen, chapter adviser, attended the meeting with the members.
