GHS golf: Golfers claim Herington meet

In an early season tournament, the Goessel High School golf team picked up medals for a first-place finish.

The weather was not conducive for good scores, but the Bluebirds outflanked their opponents.

Leading the way for Goessel was senior Nathan Ensz with a fourth-place individual medal, shooting an 83.

Hayden Goerzen finished with an 88, followed closely by Tyler Schmidt with 90.

Seniors Jake Schrag (95), Sam Lehrman (99), and Derek Brown (104) rounded out the team scores.

Due to a disqualifation of one if its players, GHS only was able to qualify for the two-man score Friday at the Hillsboro Invitational.

Goertzen (87) and Schmidt (85) combined for a score of 172.

Hillsboro took first in the two-man competition with a score of 151.

Brown (85), Cameron Voth (88), and Schrag (89) also competed in the tournament.

Brown earned an eighth-place medal for his play.
