The Goessel High School volleyball team traveled to Elbing and defeated Peabody in two games.
In their match against Berean, Ashley Ensz 6'1" middle hitter, reinjured an ankle tendon and the Bluebirds had to scramble to find another rotation that would work.
Goessel won the first game, but Berean held on to take games two and three.
Goessel traveled to Tescott on Saturday and achieved the third place medals out of eight schools at the tournament. Goessel dominated the first two matches in pool play by defeating Wilson 25-9, 25-16 and then beating Elyria Christian 25-9, 25-13.
The tournament champion Osborne handed the Bluebirds their only loss in pool play by scores or 25-13, 25-22.
"I felt like the team adjusted well to playing without Ensz," said Coach Sandy Banman. "We had some good help from Trenae Wilson and Katie Flaming in their first varsity action."
In bracket play, Goessel played two matches that went to the maximum number of games. Goessel got beat by Ell Saline 26-28, 25-12, 25-27, and then won third place by defeating Lucas-Luray 23-25, 27-25, 25-13.
Goessel's record is now 10-8 overall and 2-3 in Heart of America action.
The Bluebirds turned right around and played Ell-Saline in league play along with Moundridge at Goessel on Tuesday night.
