GHS track: Boys win relay

The final event Friday at the Heart of America League meet provided excitement for the Goessel High School boys' track and field team as the 4x400-meter relay team finished ahead of the pack in a time of three minutes, 32.77 seconds.

Other Bluebird highlights included a season-best time for Laird Goertzen in the 3200m run.

Although he did not score a point in the event, his time will allow him to represent Goessel Friday at the regional meet.

Scoring for the Bluebirds was Craig Banman with victories in the pole vault and the 200m dash, and a third-place finish in the 300m hurdles.

Jared Reimer scored in two events with a fifth-place finish in the 1600, and sixth place in the 3200.

Weston Hiebert placed sixth in the triple jump and fifth in the 300m hurdles.

Evan Hiebert scored with a fourth-place finish in high jump, while Travis Fensky brought home sixth place in the 100.

Anthony Esau scored with a sixth-place finish in long jump.

The 4x100m relay team finished sixth.

The 12 schools in the league were all represented at the track meet, and Goessel, one of only two 1A schools, finished in fifth place.
