Girlfriend Get Away is Saturday

Staff writer

The Girlfriend Get Away sponsored by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce will take place this Saturday.

Twenty-four ladies have signed up for the day that offers a chance to get inspired for the holidays, relax, and treat themselves to shopping and fun. Fourteen of the 24 reservations are from out of town.

"The idea is to bring in people from out of town for this event," said Megan Kilgore, director of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.

The day of fun and festivities includes brunch at the Schaeffler House followed by a fashion show. There will be shopping downtown from 12:30 until 3 p.m., and some merchants will have demonstrations or specials for the "girlfriends." The participants will end the day at Little Pleasures for dessert, foot messages, and samples from a beauty consultant.

The cost of the day covers all expenses, and participants also will receive a goodie bag filled with things donated from Nancy's Fashions, Mary's Mats & More, Quilts & Quilt Racks, Vogts, Greenhaw Pharmacy, Kimberly Jost Massage Therapy, The Cut Above, Thee Bookstore, Molly's on Main, Little Pleasures, Hillsboro Free Press, Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair, Pampered Chef, and Hillsboro Star Journal.

"It's a way for the women to come and pamper themselves," said Kilgore. "They can relax with no crowds or lines and have a unique shopping experience in Hillsboro. Eventually I'd like to find a way to package it with an overnight stay or scrapbooking."
