Girls have another lopsided victory
Hillsboro High School girls' basketball team had another easy victory, 48-33, Friday night against Sterling.
The Black Bears led 9-6 after the first quarter, but a Trojan 16-7 run in the second quarter gave Hillsboro a lead it never relinquished.
Behind sophomore Hannah Marsh's 14 points in the second quarter, including four three pointers, the Trojans led 22-16 at half time.
Hillsboro came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring Sterling 15-5. The Black Bears outscored the Trojans 12-11 in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome Hillsboro's 16-point lead.
Marsh led all scorers with 17 points. She shot 20 percent from two-point range and 50 percent from three-point range. JuliAnne Chisholm had 10 points and seven rebounds. Nine Trojans scored in the 15-point victory.
The Trojans shot 34 percent from two-point range, 37 percent from three-point range, and 35 percent from the free throw line.
Tuesday night's game with Smoky Valley was canceled because of inclement weather. Hillsboro will play Haven at home Friday. Game time is 5 p.m. Tuesday Hillsboro travels to Wichita Collegiate.
Junior varisty
The junior varsity girls' basketball team lost Feb. 1, 33-32, to Halstead. Audrey Weinbrenner and Lora Andrews were the leading scorers with eight points each. Bobbi Jo Carlson scored five points; Jessica Heidel, three; and Amanda Bina, Amanda Faber, Tina Frick, and Amy Neufeld, two points each.
Freshmen 47 Halstead 31
The freshmen girls' basketball team defeated Halstead Feb. 1, 47-31. Faber led the team with 12 points. Neufeld scored 10 points; Bina, nine; Carlson, six; Samantha Heinrichs and Jessica Klose, four points each; and Courtney Fast, four points.
